OTTAWA - The federal government will revive the Canada Strong Pass next month, giving travelers access to discounted Via Rail tickets and reduced entry fees at museums and national parks. The pass, first introduced during the pandemic to encourage domestic tourism, is set to launch again in June.
Officials say the program aims to support the struggling tourism sector by making travel more affordable for Canadians. The pass offers a flat fee for unlimited access to participating attractions and transportation services over a set period. Specific pricing and the full list of partners have not been released yet, but past versions included savings on train routes and entry to cultural sites across the country.
Industry groups have welcomed the move, noting that many tourism operators are still recovering from years of reduced travel. The pass is expected to be available for purchase online, with details on how to use it and which dates are covered to be announced closer to the launch. Critics have questioned whether the discount will be enough to offset rising travel costs, but supporters argue it provides a simple way to explore Canada without breaking the bank.
