Eco-tourism to boost jobs, environmental conservation in B’khand: UP minister

Jhansi: Eco-tourism is set to become a key driver for local employment while also strengthening efforts to protect forests, wildlife, and biodiversity, according to Uttar Pradesh's environment, forest, and climate change minister Arun Kumar Saxena. Speaking on Thursday at the inauguration of new eco-tourism centres in Jhansi and Lalitpur, the minister highlighted the dual benefits of the initiative.

Saxena explained that these centres are designed to attract visitors to natural landscapes without causing harm to the ecosystem. By offering guided trails, nature camps, and interpretation facilities, the project aims to educate tourists about the importance of conservation. At the same time, local residents will find work as guides, caretakers, and in hospitality services, reducing their dependence on activities that might damage the forest.

The minister stressed that community involvement is central to the plan. When people benefit economically from preserving nature, they become its most dedicated protectors. He also noted that the state government is committed to expanding such facilities in other districts with rich forest cover, provided they meet environmental safety standards. The new centres are expected to draw both domestic travellers and nature enthusiasts, giving a steady income source to villages near the reserve areas. Officials from the forest department were present at the event and confirmed that regular monitoring will ensure tourism activities remain sustainable and do not disturb wildlife habitats.
