In a groundbreaking move, six prominent travel destinations have come together to participate in an innovative project aimed at addressing the escalating climate risks facing the tourism industry. The initiative, known as Climate RiskScan, seeks to develop a comprehensive framework for identifying and mitigating climate-related threats to tourism.
This collaborative effort involves researchers from CELTH, a consortium of Dutch universities, and experts in risk and resilience from Risklayer in Germany. By leveraging cutting-edge research and methodologies, the project aims to equip destinations with the tools necessary to assess their vulnerability to climate change and implement effective strategies for resilience.
The Travel Foundation, which spearheads this initiative, has extended an invitation to additional destinations and businesses to join the project, emphasizing the importance of collective action in the face of climate challenges. As the tourism sector grapples with the impacts of climate change, this pioneering project represents a significant step towards safeguarding the future of travel and ensuring sustainable tourism practices.
